Persistent Faith
By Joanie Holsapple
The four men were determined to get in and would not take no for an answer.  Knowing that the power of the Lord was there to heal their paralyzed friend (Luke 5:17), they put their faith into action. The door of the house that Jesus was ministering inside was blocked by a huge crowd of people and no one would let them through the door. Having carried their friend on a mat, all could see that the infirmity was a serious one, but that didn’t stop the friends of the paralyzed man. Jesus was the only hope for this paralyzed man to move and walk again, so his friends were not turning back or giving up. Convinced that this was the day for the miraculous healing of their friend, every hindrance and barrier would have to be removed.
Determined to get to where Jesus was ministering, they created an entrance where there was no entrance, by climbing the roof of the house and taking off the tiles. Once creating a passage, they lowered the paralyzed man, on his mat, into the middle of the crowd right in front of Jesus (Luke 5:18). There were no limitations to what the friends believed Jesus would do. They had radical and persistent faith. Jesus saw their faith and once facing the paralyzed man, Jesus told him that his sins were forgiven. The man was free of the bondage of his soul by the authority of Jesus. When Jesus commanded him to rise up and walk, He freed him from the bondage in his body. Instantly the man was healed and rose up and walked (Luke 5:25).
Once the paralyzed man was healed the crowd of people said, “Today we have witnessed a great miracle, we have never seen anything like this!” Everyone was amazed and they praised God (Luke 5:26).
Now imagine yourself trusting God for your miracle and standing outside of the house where Jesus was ministering in Luke 5. There is a huge crowd of people blocking the entrance. Some of the people you recognize and are very familiar with your situation, others you have never met until, now. Thinking that your miracle is impossible, they try to block you and point you away from the entrance. They began to say, “Why don’t you settle for something less or something that is attainable in your own strength. What you are believing Jesus to do for you is utterly ridiculous. Get back and settle for mediocrity. Besides, there are just too many people here and He’s too busy with more important things.” But you hold fast to your faith for your miracle and are not discouraged by their unbelief. In fact, you get quite persistent and radical. You go and get the tallest ladder that you have and climb on top of the roof of the house. Ripping the tiles off the roof, you now have access to Jesus. You enter through the opening and stand in front of Jesus. He sees your radical faith and is astonished. He says, “What do you ask of Me My child?” In front of everyone present you ask Jesus for your miracle. He smiles and says, “It shall be done as you have believed.” Instantly, it manifests and everyone says, “Today we have witnessed a great miracle like never seen before. To God be all the glory and praise.”
Don’t give up. Stand firm. Jesus sees your persistent faith and will manifest your miracle! He has not over looked you.
